Dear Friends of the Velodrome,
This Annual Fund appeal letter was supposed to be a celebration of our 10 year anniversary. Instead, it is an urgent appeal for help. Sometime in the last few weeks ALL OF OUR RENTAL/LOANER BIKES WERE STOLEN FROM THE OFFICE TRAILER. As a low-cost, low overhead non-profit, we have always been good stewards of the generous donations over the years to build and maintain the only Velodrome in Ohio. We built the track with many generous donations and hundreds and hundreds of volunteer hours. Over the years at least 5,000 unique riders have tried the track through our Track 101 programs, races and other events. We are a unique anchor in the Slavic Village Community and we strive to serve both recreational cyclists AND the youth of Cleveland.
Our trailer was vandalized — the thieves broke in through a window and STOLE 25 track bicycles. Without these bikes we cannot operate the track, especially for our youth clinics throughout the summer. The trailer has a security system and cameras, but somehow the motion sensors were not triggered. The bicycles were smuggled out of the back window. The Cleveland Police have assigned a detective to the case and we are alerting local bike shops of a description of the bikes – gray Felt TK3 bikes and black/white Specialized Langster bikes. If the bikes cannot be recovered, we will need to purchase a new fleet of bikes.
Our appeal to you – the friends of the Velodrome – is simple. Please make a donation to help us acquire new bikes and continue to make improvements to our biggest asset – the ONLY Velodrome in Ohio.
