BETH NEWELL, a 2014 Pan Am Champion and 2016 Olympic hopeful will lead the Cleveland Velodrome’s Women’s Track Cycling Clinic on May 23rd and May 24th. The two-day clinic, sponsored by Tkach Consulting and Ohio Savings (a division of New York Community Bank), will feature professional coaching for both recreational and competitive cyclists. No track cycling experience required – we will teach you how to ride the track.
Ms. Newell will be joined by her husband and coach Michael Hernandez. In addition to track instruction the clinic will include sessions on sports nutrition and yoga for cycling. Beth is a native of the Cleveland area and is looking forward to returning to test out Ohio’s only velodrome. The cost for the two day clinic is $45 and will include lunch both days plus bike rental and coaching. Saturday, May 23rd
9 am to 9:30 am Introductions, Intro to Track Cycling Clinic by Beth Newell
9:30 am to 12 noon Track time (includes skills drills, team pursuit, etc.)
12 noon to 1 pm Lunch (participants are encouraged to ask questions during lunch)
1 pm to 2 pm Sports Nutritionist presentation by Meghann Featherstun MS, RD, CSSD, LD
2 pm to 4 pm Track workout (includes skills drills, team pursuit, etc.)
Sunday, May 24th
9 am to 10 am Yoga for Cyclists (class held in the infield) by Susan Livingston, E-RYT 500, CYT 500,
10 am to noon Track time (includes skills drills, team pursuit, etc.)
12 noon to 1 pm Lunch (participants are encouraged to ask questions during lunch)
1 pm to 1:30 pm Strength & Conditioning Exercises
1:30 pm to 3 pm Track time (includes skills drills, team pursuit, Madison practices, etc.)
3 pm to 4 pm Q & A and Wrap Up.
The clinic is suitable for women who have some road and/or cyclocross racing experience, or have previously ridden a track, or is fit enough and has bike handling skills suitable for competing in a women’s cat 4 (or Junior girl’s) race on the road.
