The last Friday of every month, Cleveland Critical Mass hosts a cycling event with as many as 500-600 cyclists of all abilities. This month, the Cleveland Orchestra is culminating its Neighborhood Residency in Slavic Village with a cycle event co-sponsored by The Cleveland Velodrome and Cleveland Critical Mass on Friday, August 28, 2015.
Schedule of Events
4pm – Track opens
5:30pm to 6:30pm – Track 101 – Learn to Ride the Track Class. Space is limited and includes usage of a track bike. Reserve your spot today.
6:00pm – Beer Garden and Food Trucks are open.
6:35pm to 6:45pm – Mini Mass leaves from the Velodrome to Mall A. Free car parking at the Bohemian National Hall, 4939 Broadway Ave, which is next to the Velodrome. Cyclists who park at the Velodrome will ride to Mall A in downtown Cleveland for the start of the Critical Mass ride.
7:00pm to 8:30pm – The ride starts at 7 pm from Mall A downtown and will show some of The Cleveland Orchestra’s past performance venues. The ride will end at the Velodrome in Slavic Village, 5033 Broadway Avenue, (Entrance off of Pershing Ave).
8:30pm to 10:30pm – A member of the Cleveland Orchestra will play the national anthem which will be followed by exciting bicycle racing from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm – under the lights at Ohio’s only velodrome. All Critical Mass cyclists are welcome to watch the races for free (normally $5 admission). Food Trucks include Fired Up and Motor Mouth, beverages and a beer garden will also be available.
All proceeds from the event benefit Fast Track Cycling which provides free youth and adult programs at the Velodrome.
The Critical Mass ride will take place rain or shine. The Velodrome competitive races will be cancelled in the event of rain, but attendees are invited to the Bohemian Hall next door.
